Full Dage Sport Slant Nose Conversion, 16" Fuchs with Black Centres, Dr Furhrmann Orthopeadic Seats, Wilton Carpets, Fully rebuilt and blueprinted 3.3 litre turbo engine rated at 330 BHP.
Production of the legendary 911 Turbo started in 1975. At this time it was the fastest production vehicle available in its native country of Germany. In 1978 Porsche made significant improvements, increasing the engines capacity from 3.0 to 3.3 Litres, adding an air to air intercooler and the ubiquitous whale tail spoiler, this gave the 911 300 bhp, better cooling as well as greatly improved high speed stability. In 1981 Porsche offered a slant nose special order program, with hand crafted bodywork, and a 330 BHP engine performance kit which they sold at a sixty percent premium over the standard price. Only 948 of these special edition vehicles were ever made and it was this model that Dage decided to emulate with this amazing vehicle.
This 1978 Porsche 930 3.3 Turbo has been lovingly created by Dage Sport into this unique homage to the 935 race car. Designed and built in 1988 for the major sponsor of the race team, this car was specifically tailored to be the ultimate road going 911 Turbo. Conversions of this type were usually carried out to for the sole purpose of enhancing the aerodynamics and lightening the vehicle for greater on track performance. Our car is unusual in that was built using genuine original equipment 911 SE style steel wings as opposed to the race cars fibreglass bodywork, and it retained and improved all its original creature comforts. The commissioning owner kept the car for over 18 years and lovingly maintained it with Dage who ultimately became G Force Motorsport, who are best known in Porsche circles for their Blue Coral 935 and GT1 race cars.
Our car is finished in Anthracite Metallic paintwork which is to a high standard. The car has had a secession of enthusiastic owners who have lavished money on both the mechanics and bodywork keeping blemishes and rust away. As such the car presents just as well in the metal as it does in these photographs. As you would expect the Slantnose conversion and wider rear arches have been done very well with the panel gaps throughout the car.
The Dage has been fitted with a brand new set of 16" Porsche Fuchs with a brand new set of Continental Sport Contacts all round. The brakes do a remarkable job of slowing the car down given their 1970's origins and do so with out any grabbing.
Early 911 Gearboxes have many myths and stories attached to them. The reality is that if well maintained (as this one is) and the driver well educated there is little to worry about. The clutch pedal is offset to the left hand side of the footwell, and needs to be depressed deep into the Wilton to engage the gears cleanly. They don't like to be hurried until the fluids are all up to temperature, but once you have the knack you will soon be using the Turbo lump to its full potential. As previously stated the engine has been subject to a massive amount of work through its life, and has recently had a rebuild to cure all engine leaks so that oil didn't find its way onto the previous owners flag stone heated floor in his garage! Once warmed up it looses its slightly grumpy tick over and pulls cleanly with an amazing amount of urge through the rev range. With a car this well looked after and with the amount of supporting documentation there is a lot of piece of mind in this car. Don't forget this engine and gearbox have just been rebuilt and will now reward the next owner with out the sting of the bill!
Finished in full black leather, extended to the door cars and black Wilton carpets the Dage has one of the best interiors available. Back in 1978 Dr Furhmann would have taken £3,200 off you for the very last word in seats for the inside of this car. They hold and support you in all the correct areas as you exploit the performance of this machine. The rest of the interior is all functioning correctly and is a very special place to be on a Sunday afternoon.
930 Turbos have a reputation for delivering brutal performance which will catch out the unwary. Our experience of driving this car is that, once educated to the laws of physics, and remembering to listen to the communications from the chassis, there is little to be afrade of. The major thing to remember is to feed the power in carefully as sudden prods of the throttle result in huge dollops of torque being put through the rear tyres. You can see why Porsche have become one of the most successful motor manufacturers when you drive this car. It was so far ahead of its time in terms of performance, roadholding and quality and as such they make a fantastic Classic Car
This Dage has got a fantastic story and service history behind it. There are MOT's from 1980 through to the present day showing the mileage to be correct.
The car was originally supplied by the Lancaster Group on 18th May 1978 as a standard 3.3 Turbo in Black to its first owner who immediately sold it on for a premium. The second owner sold the car on at 18,000 miles to the third owner in 1979 who ran the car for four years and approximately 46,000 miles. The forth owner bought the car in 1983 and maintained it regardless of cost using Dage Sport for for some major mechanical reconditioning including a full engine rebuild and new turbocharger. In the June of 1987 Dage purchased the car with 71,520 miles with a view to restoring the car to 911 SE specification for one of the sponsors for their race car team. At the start of their work the speedometer was changed and the number plate was changed to 911 RRT. Both of which are still with the car.
Since then the car has had three fastidious owners who have kept up a great history and covering 58,335 miles. In December 2008 the car was delivered to Tongola Engineering where they undertook a complete mechanical overhaul of the running gear including new wheels and tyres, engine rebuild and gearbox rebuild. Since then the car has seen only 'dry weather' running covering just 200 local miles. The bill totaled £12,400 and leaves the car in fantastic mechanical condition.
