The 3.2 Carrera was introduced in 1984 and although it shared the same body shell as the earlier SC there were a number of detail improvements and of course more power from the larger capacity engine. Porsche built these cars simply and strongly and today they represent one of the best ways to get into classic Porsche ownership without breaking the bank. Porsche offered the car in three body styles (Coupe, Targa and Convertible) and it remained pretty much untouched until it was replaced in 1989 by the 964 apart from the introduction of a more modern gearbox during the last 3 years of production known as the G50.
The body work of this 911 Cabriolet is in great condition, it is rare to see these late cars in non-sport spec with out the rear tail and the colour which is a dark grey/green seems to be almost unique. All the usual weak spots such as the base of the windscreen, kidney bowls and impact bumpers are free from corrosion and there are very few stone chips on the bonnet or lower valance. The black fabric roof is in good condition, it has not faded, is not torn or have a damaged rear screen . The panel gaps are uniform and the paint has a deep finish.
The wheels are a set of 16" Fuchs, the centres painted in the body colour with a chrome rim. They are clothed Pirelli P6000's at the front and Continentals at the rear. The brakes pull the car to a stop with usual German efficiency and it does so without pulling to either side.
The 3.2 litre engines in these 911's are very smooth and deliver the 230 BHP in a very usable fashion. The car has been very well looked after and the engine starts on the button and settles down to an even idle as the engine warms through. The G50 gearboxes are a great improvement on the earlier 915, behaving like a modern box with plenty of spring making sure that each gearshift is positive and above all in the correct place! They really are the first of the modern driving 911's.
The interior of this 911 is in good condition. The electric comfort seats, dash top and the door cards are covered in a matching grey/green leather and look fantastic when the hood is down. Another almost unique feature of this car is the electric folding roof, all you need to do is unzip the rear screen and press the button and it folds away behind the rear seats. There is also roof cover.
The driving experience on these cars are very good. The engine is willing, provides plenty of urge and the gearbox and steering are easy to use without loss of feel. Add to this the open air element of the Cabriolet and you have a car that can be used for almost any occasion.
