The 348 was launched in 1989 and came in two versions; the coupe badged 348 TB and the Targa badged 348 TS. Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.4 litre version of the quad-cam, 4-valve per cylinder V8 engine which was originally found in the 288 GTO sports car it produces 300 BHP and sits longitudinally with a transverse 5 speed gearbox. Similar to the Testarossa the oil and coolant radiators were relocated from the nose to the flanks which widened the waist of the car substantially, but made the cabin much easier to cool, since hoses routing the warm water no longer ran underneath the cabin. This also had the side effect of making the doors very wide.
All Ferrari 348s use a racing "dry-sump" oil systems to prevent oil starvation at high speeds and during cornering, because of this the oil level can only be checked accurately when the engine is upto operating temperature and is running. The motor sport technology didn't finish there either, all 348s have independently adjustable suspension for ride height, as well as a 'quick release' rear sub-frame to speed up the removal of the engine for maintenance something that makes a cam belt change much cheeper than its predecessors.
In 1993 the 348 was revised, there were subtle styling changes and more power, helped by better breathing from a new exhaust system the V8 then produced 320 BHP. The revised cars are called 348 GTB and GTS. For these models, the lower body was body-colored and the rear track was one inch wider due to the addition of spacers. The suspension geometry was revised which enhanced its handling, ride and body control. The 348 Spider was also introduced, in-line with the phasing out of the Mondial Cabriolet. For 1994 only, Ferrari also made 348 Competizione race models in conjunction with the Michelotto performance house. These 348 GTCs (or GT Competiziones) had kevlar front and rear bumpers, kevlar seats, kevlar door panels.
As you would expect from such a low mileage and cherished car the paint work on this Ferrari is in fantastic condition. There is hardly a stone chip on the car and the paint work seems to be original. With a generous helping of wax the car has a fantastic luster and deep and even finish across the bodywork.
Fitted with a set of original equipment set of 5 spoke 17" 'throwing star' alloy wheels which are 7.5J at the front and 9J at the rear. These are currently clothed in the original factory Pirelli Tyres which will be replaced before sale as they feel a bit too hard and are probably past their best.
The engine bay is in fantastic condition. All the hoses, cam covers, inlet covers etc look as close to new as is possible. The car has just had a full health check by Ferrari Agents Grey Paul including a full cam belt service. As with all Ferrari's they feel their best when warmed right the way through and once this is the case this 348 gives its very best.
As you can see from the photographs the interior is in fantastic and original condition. The tan leather and beige carpets are unmarked and there is an original set of 348 TS Red Carpet Mats. We are in the process of sorting out a few small electrical issues which include the electric wing mirrors which but otherwise all the equipment works as it should. The Targa top is in good condition and seals correctly.
As yet the Ferrari has not been test driven as freezing conditions and 8 inches of snow don't mix with Italian super cars!
